Negativland, Oliver Slate Greene
Negativland is a slab-serif revival of Antique Tuscan, a typeface used in woodblock printing beginning in the mid-19th century. Negativland is to be used in an editorial manner: articles on film-related issues, titling, and any other decorative use where applicable. The typeface it is based on is an Antique Tuscan from an 1849 catalogue by Wells & Webb.

Mayberry, Carlotta Kohl
Mayberry is a decorative, geometric sans serif with a nostalgic Americana feel. Based on the sleepy fictional town in the Andy Griffith show, Mayberry embodies the idea of simple America and the importance of its rural values. The letterforms are created from traditional frilled toothpicks that are often used to hold sandwiches together and classic white Wonder Bread. These two items and a checkered picnic cloth are symbols of small town America. The typeface is a step back to a time where one relished in the simple pleasure of eating a good sandwich.

Xebra, Patrick Kim
Xebra is a decorative, serif typeface that loosely takes influences from calligraphy and Bodoni. One of its most obvious and notable features is the diagonal slopes forming the crossbars. I was looking for a way to create unique letterforms and I was really inspired by how easy it was to create elegant shapes using a calligraphy pen. I really loved the way it made these flared shapes so I chose that shape to be the main focus and built around it.

Octopoda, Gabrielle Amormino
Octopoda is a decorative script typeface named after the scientific order for the octopus. What drew me to the idea of using an octopus as my inspiration was how innately flexible these animals are. I wanted to explore how that flexibility could contribute to the letters I would create. For Octopoda’s punctuation I modeled the characters after an octopus’ ink ejections, feeling that they should be an extension of the letters’ personality. All of the letterforms were illustrated traditionally and painted digitally.

Humid, Renshou Zhang
“Humid” is a decorative san serif that is perfect for magazines, ads or anything related with nature and lives. It is fun, dynamic and activated. My inspiration of this font came from an illustration of a rain cloud. Every letter is made up of rain cloud and rain drops with different weight in order to present a sense of movement. I put lots of effort in stylization of every drop of the rain, to make sure they look organized in a “humid” way.

CEUW, Jessica Lauren Chung
CEUW is a decorative typeface based on Helvetica, hand-crafted by stamping ink on wet
watercolor paper. I wanted to create an organic typeface with ink, one of my favorite
mediums, using semi-controlled distortion of Helvetica. I decided to stamp the
letterforms instead of directly writing them for more accurate traces of Helvetica.
