Backbone, Nicole Alvarez
The inspiration for my typeface, Backbone, inspiration come from my early childhood and my fascination with my mother’s necklaces. Manipulating the necklaces and throwing them on the floor and trying to figure out their shape was one of my favorite past-times. Using that inspiration, I used one of my mother’s necklaces made entirely of fishbones and recreated an organic typeface which references the way I normally write.Spring 2012

About:

These are the final typography projects created in the 'What's Your Type?' course at the School of Visual Arts. The students are majors from graphic design, illustration, film & video, cartooning, photography, advertising, sculpture, and computer art & visual effects. For many students, this course was their first introduction to the wonderful world of typography that we all passionately love.
